While the gardens reflect the soul of nature, buildings reflect the soul of man and how it interacts with those things in nature. The buildings of Hakone take you back to the Edo period of historic Japan at the height of the Shogun era. If you use a bit of imagination, you just might hear those sandaled feet shifting the gravel of the walkways as the Shogun strolls along the paths of his sanctuary.
