Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Relief
The Hakone Foundation is deeply saddened by the loss of so many precious lives in Japan, and the suffering caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami. We are doing our utmost to help out in this time of need, by facilitating donations and by planning a candlelight vigil.
- To our friends and members who are expressing their sympathy, we have arranged for a way to make a donation. Please click the link below to donate money to the relief efforts through Consulate-General of Japan.

- Hakone will hold a candlelight vigil as follows by Reverend Ito. Admission is free during the vigil. We encourage you to come and bring your family and friends.
Vigil is Rescheduled due to the weather condition to Monday, March 28, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM
Please give generously, and join us at Hakone Estate and Gardens on Monday, March 28 for the candlelight vigil.
Parking: Shuttle service will be provided from downtown Saratoga at 6 pm at the corner of Big Basin Way and 3rd Street.

- Ogata Kai Returns - A group of Japanese landscape architects trained under the late Kenzo Ogata will come back to Hakone this year after 2 years. Their last visit in 2009 included reconstructing the steps to the upper pond and upgrading the Tsukubai area, leading to the Zen Garden House through the Tea Garden. Their new project this year will include the improvement of the entrance to the Hakone and the Mon area. We look forward to their visit very much!
- Japanese Foreigh Ministry Honors Hakone - Hakone Foundation was honored to be the recipient of a Certificate of Commendation on Dec. 6, 2010 from the Japanese Foreign Ministry. This award recognizes Hakone Estate and Gardens' years of contribution in raising Japanese cultural heritige to the general public in the US.
- Winter in the Gardens - It's time to prune trees which encourages vigorous spring growth. Many spring blooming trees are lining up and popping up their fragrant blossoms now, including a variety of early plums and camilias.
- New Website to be unfolded soon -
- Upcoming events include third Annual Lunar New Year Celebration on March 5, special stillpoint painting exhibition of Dr. John Diamond from May 1 - June 30, as well as Memoris of a Geisha 5 years later event. Also Spring Matsuri is schedule on May 15.
- Two new classes are added: Noh Theater on Sun. Feb. 13, and Tae Kwon Do on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 AM - 10:45 AM. Come join in these new activities!
